How to Stay Calm When Working with (or raising) Children
A Talk by Dr. Brie Turns LMFT, ASDCS (Associate Professor, Arizona Christian University)
About this Talk
Staying regulated and calm when working (or raising) children can be one of the most difficult challenges adults, parents, and caregivers face. We find ourselves triggered by their behaviors or emotions and usually add more chaos to the situation.
In this presentation, you will learn the basics of self-regulation and the concept "Window of Tolerance." You learn how to identify what triggers cause you to leave your "window" and self-soothing techniques that can help you remain calm and regulated. Finally, you'll be able to help children soothe when they are outside of their window, and quickly help them return to a calm and peaceful state.
