5 Common Spiritual Practices that Re-Traumatize the Traumatized
A Talk by Janyne McConnaughey PhD (Board President, Attachment & Trauma Network)
About this Talk
Faith communities unintentionally misjudge the effects of childhood trauma in both positive and negative ways— often re-traumatizing the traumatized. This session will address five religious practices involving the topics of sin, conviction, repentance, forgiveness, self-loathing, and unmet childhood needs. Five principles of trauma-responsive churches will then be offered as paths to provide safe-spaces for both healing and spiritual growth.
